Money scripts, developed by everyone in childhood and carried into adulthood, are so ingrained and so powerful that they can undermine well-intentioned goals for financial stability.
“They operate 24/7 and affect every single decision we make about money,” said Rick Kahler, a South Dakota financial planner and author, who has written extensively about money scripts. “But money scripts are partially true. They are formed from what our caretakers tell us, or don’t tell us, about money at a time when we have no filters, and most of them go unchallenged.”
