Money scripts, developed by everyone in childhood and carried into adulthood, are so ingrained and so powerful that they can undermine well-intentioned goals for financial stability.

“They operate 24/7 and affect every single decision we make about money,” said Rick Kahler, a South Dakota financial planner and author, who has written extensively about money scripts. “But money scripts are partially true.
