EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy

Anyone can experience intense trauma. EMDR is a successful form of treatment to help resolve distress. What is EMDR? Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is a powerful, structural, psychotherapy approach. It includes eight stages of treatment to alleviate the residual pain of trauma, loss and related symptoms. During EMDR therapy, your therapist guides you in identifying a problem or trauma, has you concentrate on it while guiding you to move your eyes rapidly from side to side. EMDR allows you to see the traumatic event or events in a new less distressing way.

What kinds of distress can EMDR treat? Post-traumatic stress, depression, panic attacks, grief, phobias, eating disorders and abuse are some examples.

EMDR therapy helps children and adults of all ages.

TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS
It is not unusual for teens and twenty-somethings to experience emotional highs and lows as they move through this challenging phase of life. Teens, emerging adults, and their parents all need to be aware of the differences between “normal” moodiness and stress, and what constitutes a mental health issue.

Mental disorders, especially anxiety and depression, impact all aspects of a teen or young adult’s life: appetite, sleep, the ability to focus or concentrate, be creative, and learn new things. Irritability and pushing people away can affect their relationships. Good therapy provides much needed hope.

“Our therapists understand the unique challenges that teens and young adults go through.  We take the time meet you where you’re at, and provide whatever support and tools that you need. Therapy is a place where you can be the expert of your own life, even as you’re still growing and changing.”

~ Dr. Aletta
